Hanoi Medical University, which was established in 1902 under a name: Indochina Medico-Pharmaceutical University, was the first university of Indochina.

BRIEF HISTORY OF HANOI MEDICAL UNIVERSITY

Hanoi Medical University (HMU). founded in 1902. was originally called Medical College of Indochina. Its first Rector was Dr. Yersin who helped the Vietnamese move towards Western Medicine and further develop higher education and doctor training in Vietnam.

The August Revolution of 1945 marked the start of a new chapter in Vietnam's history. The instructors and students of HMU volunteered to serve in the Resistance War, following the call of the Vietnamese Communist Party and President Ho Chi Minh. During this time, HMU made many important contributions to the war effort. Through training, scientific research. and invention, the university helped to secure victory against the French colonialists.

After 1954. the instructors and students of HMU returned to Hanoi to rebuild and to usher in a new era. Professor Ho Dac Di and other university lecturers continued to develop Western medicine in combination with Vietnamese traditional medicine and to train Vietnamese doctors. The HMU community performed scientific research and made great contributions to the American Resistance War, to the liberation of South Vietnam and to the unification of the whole country.

After 1975, having overcome all difficulties, HMU continued to promote training and scientific research, thereby further developing the medical field in Vietnam. Many achievements in the Vietnamese health sector have benefitted from direct and indirect contributions from the instructors and students of HMU. As stated in its mission and vision, HMU aims to establish itself as a leading multidisciplinary medical university through active development and integration with the rest of the world and by continuously growing to meet and adapt to the needs and expectations of the Vietnamese health sector.

SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH

Develop Hanoi Medical University into a center of applied sciences and a leader in the transfer of health care technologies, a driving force for the development of the science of medicine in Vietnam; prioritize

.the development of cutting-edge science such as molecular biology, gene-protein technology, nano-technology, stem cell applications in treatment, and disease prevention; focus on promoting research related to basic medicine & science including modem epidemiology, research on clinical applications, developing technology, training combined with scientific research, and scientific and technological services.

INTERNATIONAL PARTNERSHIP

Hanoi Medical University has collaborative relationships with many countries and their institutes and universities, including France, the United States, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Sweden, Japan, Australia, and Korea. Main areas of international collaboration include:
