SPSS Statistics Package in clinical research (13-10-2015)
The course is intended for participants who plan to do statistical analyses of clinical data for research papers or for a thesis. The aim is to introduce the SPSS statistical package with emphasis on the techniques that are most commonly used for clinical data.

This is a six-hour hands-on course to be held on Saturday December 5, 2015 at Hanoi Medical University. The morning session will be from 9:00 am to noon and the afternoon session from 12:45 pm to 3:45 pm.

The course is intended for participants who plan to do statistical analyses of clinical data for research papers or for a thesis. The aim is to introduce the SPSS statistical package with emphasis on the techniques that are most commonly used for clinical data. It will begin with a brief introduction to the SPSS menu system but most of the time will be devoted to SPSS syntax which is far quicker and more efficient for most analyses than the menus. The course will not assume understanding of statistics apart from simple concepts such as the normal distribution, means, standard deviations, proportions, t-tests, chi squared, odds ratios and confidence intervals..

Participants should arrange for the SPSS statistics package to be installed on their computer and make sure that it is running correctly before the session. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT. If necessary, ask a colleague who is familiar with SPSS to confirm this, as it will not be possible to resolve any problems related to the functioning of the program during the session and you will not be able to participate.

The course is limited to 25 people and power outlets will be available for this number. It may be possible for two people to share one computer but this would not be as effective as each having their own.
