Hanoi Medical University in harmony with the "Doi moi" period

At the biginning of 90s, in harmony with the "Doi moi" period, the HMU has moved along a dual orientation: development of high technology medicine, as in cardiology, organ transplantation, etc., and in the other hand, extensive investigation on public health and plurilateral cooperation with other nations and regions on the world: France, USA, the Netherlands, Sweden, Australia, Japan, Indonesia, etc...
Many international symposia have been organized, such as Symposium in cardiovascular diseases, symposium in nephro-urology, symposium in traumato-orthopedics. Though these symposia, the prestige of HMU has been progressively enhanced. There have been extension of many international cooperations. Young Vietnamse doctors have been sent to foreign countries for improving their medical skill, in the same time about 50 foreign students from France, Germany, Switzerland, Australia, UK, etc were admitted annually to practice at Hanoi hospitals.
During nearly 100 years of development, the HMU had deeply linked to Hanoi, as well as to the whole country. The HMU has been known about in the past, present, and certainly in the future by numerous nations on the world. Until the present days, the HMU has formed more than 17,000 doctors of regular system and about 10,000 post-graduate students. Anywhere in Vietnam, one can see the imprint of HMU and this is the legitimate pridefulness of masters and students of the HMU.
In organization, the school has developed from the two-tier system to the three-tier system, and has created three new faculties, for publish health, traditional medicine, and stomatology. Some new departments have also been added, thus, in addition to the formation of general practitioners, the HMU now trains doctors of stomatology and maxillo facial surgery, doctors of traditional medicine, Bachelors of Publish health, Bachelors of Nursing, and Medical technicians. Enrolments grow fast, with an average increase of between 300-500 admission every year.
Postgraduate
Postgraduate formation is conducted through two systems. One is placed under the authority of the Ministry of Education and Training; It is designed for the Master’s degree (two years) and the Doctor’s degree (two years for holders of the Master’s degree, and four years for Bachelors). The other system is operated by the Ministry of Health. It is intended for interns (residents– three years), First Degree specialists (two years) and Second-Degree specialists (three years for clinical work and two years for laboratory work)

Undergraduate
Carrying out the management and administration of students. Participating in designing the curriculum schedule and in planning detailed curriculums for the general doctor system as well as the nursing system. Contributed a great part to the training of 17,564 medical doctors and 94 medical bachelors now working in all parts of the country.
