ASEAN-U.S. Science Prize for Women
(04-02-2020)
In partnership with the U.S. Government, through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and its ASEAN-USAID Inclusive Growth in ASEAN through Innovation, Trade, and E-Commerce (ASEAN-USAID IGNITE) project and Underwriters Laboratories (UL), the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) would like to announce an extension to the application period for the sixth annual ASEAN-U.S. Science Prize for Women (the Prize) supported by UL, due to the massive interest we have received. The application deadline to participate in the 2020 Prize is extended to Friday, 14 February 2020. The Prize will honor two women from the ASEAN working in the area of the “Preventive Healthcare”
Preventive healthcare, which consists of measures taken for disease prevention, was chosen as this year’s theme to underscore the importance of elevating the wellbeing of ASEAN citizens through the prevention of illness and associated risks. The Prize aims to recognize the significant work of selected participants in reducing disease and illness as well as raise public awareness of the importance of preventive health care and spur action in leading a healthier lifestyle.
The Science Prize’s selection committee will provide two promising, early to mid-career ASEAN female professionals in applied science with recognition and monetary awards for their academic and professional achievements. An award of $20,000 will be given to the winner and $5,000 will be given to a scientist whose application merits an honorable mention. These top two finalists will be recognized during the gala dinner of the Informal ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Science, Technology and Innovation (AMMSTI) in Bangkok in October 2020.
